Anne Meloche, FSA, FCIA, Head of Institutional Business

As Head of Institutional Business for Sun Life Global Investments (SLGI), Anne is responsible for developing the strategy for our institutional business, including the go-to-market approach, Client service and product offering. Anne also leads the national institutional sales team, who works with plan sponsors, consultants and advisors to educate and promote SLGI’s innovative solutions for group retirement platforms. Anne is also part of the Sun Life Global Investments Leadership Team and an active member of the Sun Life Financial Quebec Leadership Team. Anne is passionate about championing sustainability progress on several fronts, and helps achieve this through her membership on SLGI’s Sustainability Committee and Net Zero Steering Committee.

After joining Sun Life Global Investments in 2012, Anne advanced through a number of senior positions. She has been responsible for building and growing our institutional business in Quebec and Atlantic Canada, and leading our business development and client servicing nationally.

Anne joined Sun Life Global Investments from a large consulting firm in Montreal where she worked for almost 15 years. As Partner, her main responsibilities were managing the DC business operations for Eastern Canada and providing advice to large private and public sector organizations sponsoring DC plans on all aspects related to implementation, management and oversight.

Anne holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from Concordia University and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. She has also been a member of the Benefits Canada Pension/Investments Board since 2020 and sits on the Board of Director of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (rubanrose.org). She is also often asked to be participate or speak at industry events where her retirement and investment expertise is called upon.

Karl William Gagné, Director, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships,
Québec & Atlantic Canada

Karl William Gagné is Director, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships, Québec & Atlantic Canada. Based in Montréal, Karl is responsible for further developing and building new relationships for the firm’s growing institutional asset management business in the Québec & Atlantic market.

Before joining Sun Life Global Investments in 2023, Karl worked at Manulife as a Client Relationship Manager, responsible for supporting Clients in managing and optimizing their retirement plans and overseeing the continuing service delivered to Clients in the large-case market. Prior to that Karl worked in Manulife’s institutional investment management business where he helped defined benefit Clients’ enhance the overall health of their plans. Karl was also previously a financial analyst for Manulife’s Quebec Strategy & President’s Office where he helped develop the strategic plan and prioritize projects according to the potential for return on investment.

Karl holds his Bachelor’s degree from Laval University, an MBA in investment management from Concordia University and is a CFA® charterholder. He is a member of the Youth Chamber of Commerce of Montreal and founding member of Finance Montreal’s Youth Board of Directors.

Satwik Misra, CFA, MBA, Director, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships, Ontario

Satwik Misra is Director, Business Development and Relationship Management. Based in Toronto, Satwik is responsible for further developing and building new relationships for the firm’s growing institutional asset management business in Ontario.

Satwik has worked in the investment and group retirement savings industry for over 15 years. Before joining Sun Life Global Investments in 2020, Satwik led Vanguard’s pensions and retirement team in Canada where he was responsible for developing and executing Vanguard’s institutional business strategy. In doing so, he worked with plan sponsors, consultants, advisors and insurance platforms in furthering investment objectives for Canadian investors. Preceding that, he was a member of institutional distributions team at TD Asset Management, which included the promotion of investment products to DB and DC plans.

James Wells, CIM®, Director, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships, Western Canada

James Wells is Director, Business Development and Relationship Management. Based in Vancouver, James is responsible for further developing and building new relationships for the firm’s growing institutional asset management business in Western Canada.

James moved to Vancouver from the UK in 2001. Over the past 10 years, James has worked in the investment and group retirement savings industry covering both the Canadian and the U.S markets. Before joining Sun Life Global Investments in 2018, James was an Investment Consultant and Principal at a large consulting firm responsible for designing and monitoring investment structures, and implementing governance strategies for DC plans. Prior to this, James worked at Industrial Alliance and was responsible for business development in Group Retirement Savings, which included the promotion of investment products to DB plans. 

James holds a BA from the University of Wales and is a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®).

Nicole Smyrnios, Senior Manager, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships

As Senior Manager, Institutional Business Development and Client Relationships, Nicole Smyrnios is responsible for further developing and building new relationships with Group Advisors for the firm’s growing institutional asset management business. She is based in Toronto.

Nicole has worked in the investment and group retirement savings industry for over 12 years.  She joins Sun Life Global Investments from Sun Life Group Retirement Services (GRS) where she has been a Client Relationship Executive (CRE) since 2018.  Here, Nicole led key client relationships, and played a pivotal role in overseeing the overall function and success of workplace retirement plans.  In her tenure with GRS, Nicole was also part of the Millennial Think Tank and a member of the GRS Allies Acting for Change committee. Prior to joining Sun Life Financial, Nicole held a variety of roles at BMO Nesbitt Burns.
